About David Thomas

David Thomas Playing Bagpipes at Charlotte NC St. Patrick's Day CelebrationI live in Greensboro, NC and have been playing the Bagpipes for about 25 years. I have loved the sound since I was a child. Music is an early love which lead to many years of devoted musical practice. The Highland Bagpipe is a very most challenging instrument to play. I also danced with the Greensboro Scottish Country Dancers for many years and still enjoy traditional Scottish country dancing. I have Scottish ancestry on both sides of my family. I am a "Park" on my fathers side and a "Walker" on my mothers side. Thomas is a Scottish name but in truth I am descended from The Welsh Thomas ap Rhys, the ap is for son of as the Irish Mc or Scottish Mac. I do however wear a Mac Thomas Kilt since Thomas is a Scottish clan as well. The plaid patterns on Kilts are called Tartans. The Mac Thomas Tartan or Plaid is a beautiful deep green and royal blue with a purple stripe in it. I do not always wear my Kilt when playing, yet I do always wear it while performing.

I also own and operate a custom frame shop called "The Artery Gallery" which I started while working as an Art Teacher for GTCC. I have a BFA degree in Sculpture from UNCG and have been painting and drawing all of my life. I feel very fortunate to live as an artist. I receive painting commissions through The Artery and my work is represented in several collections. The Artery gallery or www.arterygallery.com is located at 1711 Spring Garden St. in Greensboro. I hope you will come and visit my shop and see our monthly local artist painting show.
